We are a special breed who love these cars, why? maybe because we missed out when the Lotus
7 was around, maybe it is a late life crisis, maybe the challenge of building it yourself either from
scratch or as a kit, maybe because you were not allowed to buy a Harley, one thing we all love
them.
And we all love driving them, but most of the time are restricted in enjoying the car to what it can
do due to shit roads, traffic, speed restrictions, cyclists etc etc.
So, why not consider driving it on a racetrack (Winton, Broadford, Sandown, Phillip Island), all
good bitumen, one way traffic, no crossroads, no speed limits, all ideally suited for our clubbies in
a safe environment.
You might say I have never done this before, I might damage my car, someone might run into me.
There are sessions for learners, those who want to go a bit quicker and those who compete at
track days now. There are rules will be in place to make all feel comfortable. You can drive around
as fast or slow as you want.
We are looking for expressions of interest to look at the options available. Options are the “Come
and Try” days held by various clubs, if sufficient numbers “special clubbies” sessions held at track
days run by another club/association, hire a track ourselves for a day.
As far as what required car wise is, your car will need to be roadworthy, need a fire extinguisher,
need to wear a helmet. There are members around who can assist with this, If you are concerned
about car damage some insurance companies like Shannons and Famous will cover you on the
track.
