Say hello to these folk when you see them:

Neil Boyle

My interest in motorsport goes back to the 60’s sitting on a chair on top of the roof of my Dads Mark 2 Zephyr wagon at Lukey Heights Sandown watching Beechey, Manton, McKeon and Jane do battle.
Also watched my Uncle Reg Lunn take off the Australian rally champion in HDT works HR’s, XU1’s and the mighty 350 Monaro. So I was hooked at a young age.
Living next door to the speedway legend Jimmy Duggan in the late 60’s led me to racing a home built 32 Ford coupe with a triple carby 48 stud Ford sidevalve V8 in my late teens at various speedways for a few years until marriage and kids came around.

But there was always a series of bikes, some fast, over the next 40 years including restoring some old classics over the last 10 years like a Norton Commando, 1946 BSA SV 500 single, Honda CB750 four (still got), and a 650 Kawasaki four.

Since retirement, I’ve been looking for a longer project and always thought Clubmans were a nice bit of gear. But building one was not on my radar until my mate built a Cobra. So here I am.

I’ve basically made my mind up on a Puma with a Durarec and RX7 box. I like all the Clubmans, especially the Birkin, but you can’t get them any more. The Arrows are a comprehensive and well proven kit, but I liked the slightly wider form of the Puma and it’s front suspension, and the fact that you can bolt up a Holden diff and brake rotors/calipers.

So will hopefully go for a ride in a couple of different Clubmans this Sunday and make a decision to place an order before the end of the year.

That’s me.

Btw, I reckon your club is fantastic.

I was a teenager when the both the lotus super seven and the AC Cobra arrived on the scene and like most kids at that time I lusted after both. Well part of that dream was realised a few years ago when I built a Cobra. So now it’s time to complete the dream and build a clubman.

The plan is a scratch build and I am currently discussing my ideas with an engineer. So hopefully I will commence early in the new year.

I attended the last coffee morning in Wantirna and was delighted with the welcoming friendship shown by everybody. I’m looking ford to becoming an active member of the club and enjoying the company of other clubby enthusiasts. At this stage I intend to be at the club meeting in Malvern tomorrow night.
